Ah, this one holds many memories. 1981, and my first proper job in journalism was on Company magazine, the baby feminist sister of Cosmopolitan, then edited by the fearsome Deirdre McSharry (she discovered Twiggy. Respect!). In reception I would crane my neck to drink in all the Cosmo cover girls on the walls: Gia, Brooke, Cindy, Kelly, Eva, Paulina, Kim Alexis! Always big hair, red lips, cleavage.

I have no idea how I got the job on Company, as I had no talent at all: painfully shy, deaf, with acne and thread veins.
